The Macally Tune Pro has a sleek design that stands out from many of its competitors. The iPod dock with alarm is thin and has large speakers. However, the sound quality is quite low and there is no battery backup for power outages or to make the iPod clock radio portable.
With the Macally Tune Pro iPod clock radio you will be able to wake to an alarm, the radio or your docked iPod or iPhone. The music will gradually turn on and the volume will slowly increase to slowly ease you out of your sleep. There is also a sleep timer function, if you like falling asleep to music which will also gradually fade out. There are also a variety of light settings so the clock display does not keep you awake at night. The clock has a 12 or a 24 hour time adjustment and will automatically adjust for daylight savings times. However, the clock does not sync to your iPhone or iPod. Also, there are no batteries, so there is no backup, just in case of a power outage and the iPhone clock radio cannot be portable.
The iPod clock radio is compatible with all the latest iPods and iPhones, including the fifth generation iPods. The line-in jack will allow you to connect any media source with a headphone jack, but there is no charging feature for it. Also, the external MP3 players and other media sources cannot be used as an alarm. The alarm has no extra settings for weekday/weekend alarms.
The one design flaw we found in the iPod clock radio is the placement of the snooze button. It is located directly in front of the iPhone clock radio and the button is very small. Considering that most people reach out to turn off the alarm without paying much attention to where their hands are swinging, we thought the placement of this button was reckless and dangerous.
The speakers on the Macally Tune Pro are large for an alarm and they produce an adequate sound. There are adjustable settings on the back of the iPod clock radio where you can adjust the bass/treble balance. The sound quality is great for low-volume listening, but when listening to loud, bass-heavy music, there was a significant amount of static and the sound quality lessened considerably.
The iPhone clock radio has a large screen and all the buttons are clearly labeled. Setting the alarm is effortless and the time will automatically display. The display brightness does not set automatically and you will have to adjust the screen for daylight and nighttime displays.
The iPod dock manufacturer offers a variety of customer support options on the website. You can contact the customer service team via email, telephone or mail. The telephone lines are only available on Monday through Friday during regular business hours. And it will take a few days to receive a reply to any questions sent in via email. The manufacturer offers a limited 90-day warranty.
The Macally Tune Pro is aesthetically pleasing and offers a satisfactory sound quality, although the bass is not very strong. The alarm is easy to set, the buttons are clearly labeled and the display is large. However, the placement of some of the buttons on the iPod clock radio is very strange.
Pros
This iPod dock with alarm has a stunning design.
Cons
The alarm snooze button is directly in front of the iPod dock which is dangerous.
We recommend this product for its full alarm feature set.
