The iLive ICP689B iPhone clock radio is one of the smallest units we reviewed. It is fully compatible with all iPhone and iPod models, even the latest editions. The iPod clock radio is pretty straightforward and there are no real bells and whistles with this product. However, we read numerous reports of the iPhone clock radio malfunctioning and the clock stopping. For a more reliable product we suggest you check out the iHome iP90 model.
This iPod clock radio has only the standard features you would expect on a clock radio with an iPhone clock radio. The alarm can be set to use an iPod, iPhone, radio or a buzzer. There are no features that allow for weekend and weekday settings. There are no programmable sleep or snooze times and the devices connected to the in-line jack cannot be used as an alarm.
The iLive ICP689B iPhone clock radio has no customizable EQ settings and there are only a few preset settings. The iLive iPod dock comes with a remote that will control the iPod or iPhone, but it malfunctions frequently. Also, occasionally when alarms are set on your iPhone and on the iLive iPod dock, the two interfere with each other and the clock radio will occasionally stop working.
The sound quality on this iPod clock radio is surprisingly high-quality, considering its compact size. The speakers are small, but the sound got quite loud and we didn’t notice any static or hiccups in the sound quality, even at loud volumes. There wasn’t much bass power with this tiny iPhone dock and if you are looking for an extremely high quality sound, you will be disappointed with this station.
The clock has preset times and even changes with daylight savings. The dock does not sync with your iPod or iPhone. When the portable devices are connected to the alarm, the iPods and iPhones often freeze and require a manual restart. Also, the clock will occasionally freeze and you’ll need to restart the entire system.
There is little to no setup required with the iLive iPod clock radio. The clock already has a preset time and the alarm clock is simple to set. There are preset sound settings, so you don’t have to spend time trying to find the correct bass/treble balance. We would love the simplicity of this station, if it didn’t freeze or cause our iPhones to freeze.

The manufacturer also has 90-day limited warranty to cover parts and services.
The iLive ICP689B iPod clock radio is simple and has no unnecessary or additional features. It is compact and has a great design. We would love the simplicity of the product, if it didn’t constantly freeze and cause the iPod to freeze as well.
